chrismillard on "[Plugin: W3 Total Cache] https site doesn't load properly"

Using W3TC v0.9.4.1 - my site is currently being moved from http to https, but at the moment is still available on both.

When anyone visits my site on http, it loads just fine - however, when someone visits the site on https, most of the JS and CSS files fail to load properly - UNLESS I purge the page cache. This is only a temporary measure, and it soon goes back to not loading on https properly.

If I disable W3TC, then both the http and https site load just fine.

Also, both http and https load faster if I disable W3TC.

Hi Damian,

Great - that worked - I was missing the updating of the # of users to display so it cleared the cache.

Any idea if maybe there will be an updated version in the future, with an option for users to check whether to use SSL or not? Should be easy enough to implement. ;-)

Thanks for your help!

Thank you, really appreciate your help :)

Yeah, it's strange ... I think that this is an issue with forcing http in random pages (exclude myaccount, checkout). When I check the box "force http when leaving payments" in woocommerce setting the shield didn't appear. I'm still getting message:

https://dalbeshop.pl/wp-content/themes/storefront/js/script.js?ver=1

Failed to load resource: the server responded with a status of 404 (OK)

but it seems to work.

However ... when I choose "force http when leaving payments" the weird shield appears ...

EDIT:
I noticed that this issue is related to another weird issue. When I have "force http when leaving payment" I can't stay login on every page. When I'm leaving secured pages (https) I got logout and when I get back to those SSL pages I got login (weird). Same thing for customer accounts - they can't stay login on every page. Any ideas?

It's because of that script. You need to remove whatever code is adding it.

Like I said, it's not added by Storefront (assuming you're running the latest version) so without access to your site I can't direct you where to look.

If you're not running Storefront latest, update and try again. If you are, you'll need to do some digging.

Very fast answer! Thank you very much!

But the suggested change didn't work.

I tried to change to
'ajax_url' => admin_url('admin-ajax.php', 'https'),

and this seems to do it.
Could it be this?

We know about the weak SSL, but it is only for intern use nessecary.

Weird, might be a redirection or your site config, but if that works, then it is good.

@quicksdk - We have not seen any recent issues with HTTPS protocols across the entire site or in mixed setups recently.

Have you checked for any other conflicts with the setup? Are you seeing any specific errors pointing to issues related to HTTPS protocols?

I'm running the latest version of Storefront and all plugins. Ok, I will search for that script but can you pointed me where I should search it? The file or line of code? Or maybe if it's not a problem I could give you temporary login and password and then you could help me :)

I have tried to use the plugin, the embed code, the OEmbed and the basic iFrames visions and none of them work from an HTTPS site. As you may know, the trend is to have our entire site under HTTPS and that is what we have. Also, this is now a stranded for most hosting companies when you get an SSL cert.

We have a very large site with over 250k users per month and we would like to use your services, however we need a solution for the HTTPS issue. We would be willing to pay you to make any changes needed. Please get back to me ASAP. As the new site will launch on 03/13/2015.

I have WordPress installed on a linux server. I have a self-signed ssl certificate that I use only for when I'm logging into WordPress and admin functionality.

Since the SSL certificate is self-signed it, of course, sets off red flags in the browser that I have to manually override. This is OK since it's just me that's using the certificate that I created.

My problem is that I have a password protected page and when a user accesses the page with the correct password WordPress want's to write a cookie using admin.php. Since anything with admin.php is encrypted the user's browser sets off red flags with my 'non valid' ssl certificate. That is not good.

This would easily be fixed with using FORCE_SSL_LOGIN instead of FORCE_SSL_ADMIN, but FORCE_SSL_LOGIN, apparently, has been depreciated since WP 4.0 to act just like FORCE_SSL_ADMIN...

I had to turn off SSL because of this 'bug', but would very much like to have it turned back on.

Anyone out there know how to fix this?

Thanks

I would just do a sitewide search for "script.js". It's being enqueued somewhere. You just need to remove that code.

Ok, I found it! It was line of code in my functions.php. I just remove it and now everything works fine. Thank you for your support, you are doing really good job here on the forum.

I have one other question: when I check the box "force HTPP when leaving checkout" customers will get logout every time they leave secured pages, is that correct?

I also started another topic with another issue here: https://wordpress.org/support/topic/show-only-cash-on-delivery-payment-when-local-delivery-is-chosen?replies=1#post-6664044 mayby you or someone else will help me? It's my last issue before I get started with my shop :)

Thanks again @jameskoster, you are the best! Best wishes,
Mathew.

It's been over 16 hours, can someone please get back to me on this issue?

You can use the following string replace against the html returned by the plugin shortcode handler -- it will turn http links into protocol relative/agnostic links. In short, it will work on both http and https, without any future changes.

echo str_replace('http://', '//', do_shortcode('[simply_instagram]'));
